The southwestern resort town of Bodrum hosts the 13th International Bodrum Ballet Festival this year, organized with the cooperation of İzmir, Mersin, Antalya State Opera and Ballet.
The Festival opened its doors to art lovers with three different performances this year, on July 18th. Within the events, the historic Bodrum Castle hosted ‘The Firebird’, ‘Boléro’ and ‘The Rite of Spring’ on its stage.
The Firebird production composed by Igor Stravinsky and Maurice Ravel, along with the choreography of Armağan Davran, Volkan Ersoy, Uğur Seyrek and Mehmet Balkan, amazed the art lovers with its fabulous narrative, and colourful costumes and scenery.
The second performance of the night – ‘Boléro’ – was staged with the choreography of Uğur Seyrek along with Maurice Ravel’s music. Boléro illustrated how women and men hold onto life seeking for love and hope, after having faced various conflicts.
The last performance ‘The Rite of Spring’ - set to scene with Mehmet Balkan’s choreography and composed by Igor Stravinsky, told the audiences the oldest and ancient rites for welcoming the spring.
The show addressed the modern humanity who has forgotten that nature and people are actually an inseparable whole, through the story of these rites.
Bodrum Ballet Festival will keep hosting world renowned foreign guests on July 21, with the ‘Rainbow’ show, a performance by the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet.
