- Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has stated that the recent agreement reached with the U.S. doesn’t involve a fight against the the Democratic Union Party (PYD), YPG’s (Kurdish People’s Protection Units) political wing, on an interview at private Haberturk TV.
“PYD is not on our target. However, this does not imply that we support the PYD’s acts. The PYd has gained support due to its fight against ISIL but the organization is not an element that fights for peace in Syria. Even if we don’t target PYD, our criticism is clear. Our direct target is to fight against the ISIL. On the other hand we keep giving warnings to the PYD. So does the U.S.” said Çavuşoğlu.
Having added that they have intelligence regarding the PYD’s concerns over PKK attacks rising in Turkey, lately, Turkey’s FM added “We pursue a fight against PKK (outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party) in Turkey along with DHKP-C (Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front) and DAESH [Arabic name of the ISIL]. We are in fight with all the terror organisations inside the country”.
“Existence of moderate opposition forces in a security point would be the fairest option. These forces are elements that fight for the integrity of Syria. We would want neither the DAESH nor the PYD to exist here because this would make the region an insecurity zone. We don’t have a dissent with the U.S. in this regard. Our agreement with our ally and friend U.S. is also in this direction” said Çavuşoğlu.
