Coal Burnt In Turkey Exceeds 90 Million Tonnes In 2014

Total hard coal consumption in Turkey rose by 2.8 percent to 29.0 million tonnes in 2014, against 28.2 million tonnes in the previous year, according to the Solid Fuels data of Turkstat.

On teh other hand, total lignite burnt in Turkey jumped by 20.0 percent to 62.0 million tonnes in 2014, from 51.6 million tonnes in 2013 and total coal consumption in Turkey rose by 14.0 percent to 91.0 million tonnes in 2014, from 79.8 million tonnes in the previous year.

Total 75 percent of the coal burnt in Turkey in 2014 used in the thermal power stations, increasing by 24.0 percent to 68.2 million tonnes, from 55 million tonnes in the previous year.

Around 10 percent of total coal consumed in Turkey last year were burnt in the industry including the iron and steel companies, and the rest 15 percent at around 13 million tonnes were burnt for heating in the houses and public buildings.
