- The Turkish military carries out entrenching works between Nusaybin district in Mardin province and Syria’s Al-Qamishli town bordering Turkey, while measures for border security expand after the ISIL's suicide bomb attack in Suruç that had hit Turkey on July 20.
These entrenching works at the buffer zone are expected to reach until the Cizre district, where the border connects Iraq, Syria and Turkey.
The ditch is announced to be carried out with an eye to prevent illegal transits through the border within security measures. Ditching works are carried out by heavy construction equipment on mine fields, while the ditch is planned to be 5 meters in width, 5 meters in depth, and 9 meters in depth including the heightened sole.
In June 2015, another entrenching - with 5 meters width and 5 meters depth - had been launched in Mardin, this time heading to the Kızıltepe district, between Nusaybin and Kamışlı districts in the region.
