- In Bodrum district of Aegean province of Muğla, off Akyar coast a fibreglass boat, attempting to cross into the Greek island of Kos with 30 illegal migrant of Syrian origin, has sank and left killed 5 people, while 25 of them have been captured.
After the incident having occurred around 04.00 on Aug 18, the coast guard teams noticed the migrants waiting ashore fainted. Some 25 migrants, including children and women captured by the coast guard have been brought to the Turgutreis Coast Guard Command in the region.
Among the migrants, three showing symptoms of hypotermy were hospitalized to Bodrum State Hospital.
Bodies of five people were pulled out of the water. The coast guard announced research-rescue work will be maintained to detect if other migrant boat exist in the region.
