Hundreds of mine workers were in the mines in the mine region of Zonguldak where several coal mines are run by private companies, when a general electric power blockout hit Turkey, at around 10.30 on Tuesday.

A technical problem in the system of the Turkish Electricity Transmission Company (TEİAŞ), which operates energy transmission lines, led to the massive outage, officials said.

Almost in all provinces throughout Turkey are affected by the outage, except Van, the only province importing electricity power from neighbouring Iran.

Production hit in the factories of the industrial province of Kocaeli due to power blockouts on Tuesday, the chamber of industry head said.

Kocaeli Chamber of Industry President Ayhan Zeytinoğlu said, most of the companies were hit by the power blocouts in the industrial province of Kocaeli, neighbouring Istanbul.

There are 13 industrial zones in the province of Kocaeli, including leading companies in petroleum, automotive, chemistry, tire sectors.
