– The patriot air defence system that had been launched in three different zones in Turkey against a potential air attack from Syria will be reduced to Spanish defence rockets, after the decision of Germany to retract its forces from Kahramanmaraş and of U.S. to retract forces from Gaziantep border towns.
Spain’s defence system is expected to abide in Adana until January 2016, despite a possible change in conditions with Spain.
After Turkey’s request, NATO had launched the defence system in Adana, Kahramanmaraş and Gaziantep in 2013, meanwhile the Netherlands had also deployed defence system in Adana but has assigned the task to Spain in January 26, 2015. In this regard 10 missile launchers had been deployed in the region connected to one battery and targeting the Middle East from Adana’s Korgeneral Recai Engin Barracks.
“We have come here to stay for one year, with a personnel of 150 people. Some of the patriots will be in the İncirlik air base in Adana. We are here to protect Adana. We work in cooperation with Republic of Turkey’s arm” had said responsible of Spanish patriots Captain Luis Burgos Sanchez.
