– In Aegean province of Manisa, migrants who have fled the civil war in Syria have been recruited as seasonal workers, after the security tension in southeastern provinces blocked the way of season worker flock from eastern Turkey.

Syrian migrants have been working for a daily wage of 45 liras, at tomato sun-drying facilities, while sleeping in tents with their children in Manisa.

The manager of the sergi Mahmut Arslan told that season workers who usually migrate to the region seasonally have not come to the Aegean province this year, therefore the managers have had to employ 20 Syrian migrants.

“This year, the agriculture industry is dead. Seasonal workers usually coming from eastern provinces every year do not want to come to the Aegean harvests for a job limited to 10-15 days.”

Having fled ISIL terror and crossed into southeastern Gaziantep province, a Syrian migrant Yaser Hıdır said. “It’s been a year since we came to Turkey from Kamishli province in Syria and one month in Manisa. We are happy to be here. After the work season, we will go back to Gaziantep. We have to earn money. That’s why we work”.
