However, the crowd’s “journey of hope” stumbled, even if some of them had their residential permit from the Interior Ministry.

Around 250 Syrian migrants including women, children and elders walked to the city center and gathered at the bus terminal. The group organized a sit in at the terminal.

Having told they have decided to cross into Greece and then Germany through highways since the sea route was dangerous, Ahmet Mithaki who made a statement for the group said, “We are not afraid of anyone. We have already taken the risk of death and difficulties. Turkish soldiers, police officers should allow us the cross the border. We will go there to survive. We are leaving because we have war in our country. They should understand us.”

Some of the migrants including children were holding the picture of Aylan Kurdi, a Syrian toddler whose picture washing ashore the coast after having drowned of Aegean shattered souls across the globe, to convince the security officers to allow them.
