The number of live births in Turkey rose by 3.6 percent to 1 million 338 thousand in 2014, while 51 percent of births were boys and 49 percent of births were girls.

The lowest total fertility rates were seen in the western cities of Turkey, Edirne with 1.47 children. Karabük with 1.55 children, Kırklareli with 1.56 children, Çanakkale and Eskişehir with 1.57 children.

While the age specific fertility rate in this age group was 126 per thousand according to the revised 2009 data, this rate was 135 per thousand in 2014, which means the number of live births was 135 per thousand women in 25-29 age group in 2014.

The crude birth rate rose to 17.3 per thousand, up from 17.0 per thousand in 2013, which means that while the number of births was 17 per thousand population in 2013, the number of births was 17.3 per thousand population in 2014.
