- Kurdish-origin citizens must choose between the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the “hypocritical” Peoples’ Democratic Party, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu said during an election campaign meeting in the eastern province of Kars on May 5.

“The right to represent both our Kurdish and Turkish brothers belongs to the nation and the nations’ AK Party” Davutoğlu said.

“They have to make a choice. This HDP people go to the west of the country and speak of peace while they decorate the east with placards covered in blood” he added.

The HDP is currently trying to attract votes from all corners of the country in a campaign to surpass the 10 percent parliamentary threshold. In this election it has decided to enter as a party, rather than as a group of independents, which is a tactic that pro-Kurdish parties previously used to surpass the threshold.

Davutoğlu claimed that the HDP is “threatening citizens” in the eastern province of Ağrı. He said the HDP and the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) were joining forces to try to prevent the AKP from continuing its time in power.

“They are only dreaming,” he said.

Meanwhile, while criticizing the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), Prime Minister Davutoğlu again stopped the crowd after it started to boo, calling for “politeness.”
