- Main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has vowed to end poverty in the country, while speaking at a rally in Istanbul’s Bakırköy district.

“You have given credit [to the ruling Justice and Development Party - AKP] for 13 years. They have given you unemployment and poverty. They did not think of you. They thought of their pockets. I promise you that Kılıçdaroğlu will only think of you” the CHP leader said during his address in Bakırköy square.

Kılıçdaroğlu said poverty will come to an end in four years if he leads the government after the general elections in June.

He also asked the CHP supporters at the rally to convince their acquaintances to vote for the CHP in the upcoming June 7 elections.

Kılıçdaroğlu has focused on the economy as part of his main opposition party’s electoral campaign during a stop in Istanbul, reiterating a pledge to raise the minimum wage to 1,500 Turkish Liras per month.

He also promised to solve the problems faced by university students by building dormitories for students across the country.
