At the incident that had occurred around 01.45 am on July 19, the stairway where the factory’s steam boilers are located had collapsed.
One worker - Uğur Çavdar - who was trapped under the rubble has died, while another worker Mustafa Karakol was injured and hospitalized to Gemlik State Hospital.
The boom, having expanded in an area of around 10 to 15 kilometres, caused by the unexpected explosion feared the Gemlik district. The explosion boom was also heard from Bursa and Mudanya provinces.
According to initial reports, the explosion had stemmed from a gas entrapment in steam boilers, and both the stairway and lift instalments had collapsed at the incident.
