More Than 60 Pct. Of Households Visit Relatives On Holidays

- Most of the housholds in Turkey prefer to visit relatives on their holidays, with 60.3 percent, according to the Household Domestic Tourism data, released by Turkstat on Thursday.

The secondary purpose of trip of the housholds was "travel, leisure, holiday" with 30.0 percent and the third was "health" with 5.3 percent, in the third quarter of 2014, the high season of tourism.In the third quarter, July, August and September months of 2014, domestic visitors stayed mostly at "house of friend and relative" with 198 million overnights.

According to number of overnights by type of accommodation, while "own house" took second place with 68 million 585 thousand overnights, "hotel" took third place with 15 million overnights.

In the third quarter 22 million residents had domestic trips. Domestic trips with one or more than one overnights increased by 7.1 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached to 28 million trips.

Domestic visitors made 307 million overnights with an average 10.9 overnights, spanding 377 lira per trip. Trip expenditures of domestic tourists increased by 30.7 percent to 10.7 billion 693 lira.

Domestic tourism expenditures was composed of individual expenditures and package tour expenditures. In this quarter, while 95.2 percent of domestic tourism expenditure was individual spending total 10.2 billion lira and 4.8 percent of it was package tour expenditures at 518 million lira.
