“Peace Process Has Not Ended” : Kck Senior

- Zübeyir Aydar, a senior figure in the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) based in Brussels told that the peace bid has not ended and the KCK abides by the Dolmabahçe Agreement announced on 28 February.

Aydar is expected to host Kurdish problem based Peoples’ Democratic Party co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş in Brussel today.

Demirtaş has announced to make an unscheduled visit to Brussels on Aug. 5, expected to meet representatives of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Aydar claimed that President Tayyip Erdoğan had knocked over the negotiation table in March when he had said, “A table, an agreement, a Kurdish problem, an observatory board do not exist”.

“In the last four months, we have not heard from Leader Apo (jailed PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan), because he is the one who speaks on behalf of the process and pursues it. Turkish government was waiting for excuses to declare war. If a group of Turkish soldiers would be killed, then Qandil would be bombed: this has been their plan. But the Kurdish government did not allow them” slammed Aydar.

Zübeyir Aydar also stated that the clashes between Turkish army and the PKK are “for the benefit of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL)” and added “Turkey is bombing the center of HPG (People's Defense Forces). This is a support to the ISIL, since the only fighters against the ISIL are YPG (People's Protection Units) and HPG”.

According to Aydar, Turkey needs to step up for the continuation of the peace process. “We are in the position of defence for now. We are not seeking war and clash. We desire that sides return back to the negotiation table. Thus the international community should intervene and speak to the sides. The international community says ‘Turkey should defend itself’ and then claim ‘the peace bid should continue’. This is not a helpful discourse”.

Having reminded that HDP co-chair Demirtaş is expected to hold several official talks in the upcoming days, Aydar said “U.S should gather Turkey and Kurds around a table and hold a position that seeks for peace. It is not enough to say ‘We are Turkey’s friend, NATO is our ally” declaring, “Erdoğan wants an early election and encourages these clashes. We do not need this conflict.”
