- Private sector’s long-term external loans fell by 3.3 billion dollars in January to 164.1 billion dollars, mainly driven by parity change, while short-term loans rose, according to the data released by the Central Bank of Turkey on Friday.
Euro/dollar parity fell by 7.1 percent to 1.06 levels at the end of January, from 1.21 at the begining of the month, which lowered the euro based debt on dollar basis.
Regarding the currency composition of the total of USD 164.1 billion, 62.3 percent consists of dollars and 30.1 percent consists of euro, the rest lira and other currencies.
From the borrower’s side, banks’ loan liabilities decreased by 941 million dollars whereas bond liabilities increased by 418 million dollars in comparison to the end of 2014.
In the same period, non-bank financial institutions’ loans decreased by 399 million dollars; whereas bond liabilities amounted to 3.1 billion dollars in the same period.
Non-financial institutions’ loans recorded a decrease of 2.2 billion dollars in comparison to the end of 2014; while bond liabilities amounted to 5.0 billion dollars in the same period.
Private sector’s outstanding short-term loans received from abroad, excluding trade credits, reached to 45.0 billion dollars, increasing by 613 million dollars in comparison to the end of 2014.
From the borrower’s side, banks’ loan liabilities increased by 422 million dollars; whereas non-financial institutions’ loan liabilities increased by 431 million dollars in comparison to the end of 2014.
Private sector’s total outstanding loans received from abroad based on a remaining maturity basis; point out to principal repayments in the amount of 72.0 billion dollars for the next 12 months as at the end of January.
