- Turnover in retail sales rose faster than, retail sales volumes in 2014, due to high inflation, according to the Retail Sales Volume Index data, released by Turkstat on Friday.
Retail turnover increased by 8.1 percent in 2014, while retail sales volume increased by 5.0 percent over the same period, according to the Turkstat data.
Turnover in food, drinks and tobacco sales increased by 15.0 percent, non-food sales rose by 9.5 percent, while automotive fuel sales fell by 3.3 percent in 2014.
Volumes in food, drinks and tobacco sales volume rose by 3.2 percent, non-food sales rose by 2.3 percent and automotive fuel sales rose by 14.7 percent, over the same period.
Turkstat data showed that, turnover in food, drinks and tobacco sales rose by almost five times of the sales volumes, which has been in the Central Bank's target througout the year 2014, as the main reason of high inflation.
On the other hand, volume sales in automotive fuel rose at high levels in 2014, while turnover fell by 3.3 percent over the same period, due to falling prices hit by crude prices which fell around 60 percent in the same period.
Sales volumes in computers, books, telecommunications equipment sales rose by 2.7 percent, textiles, clothing and footwear sales by 7.3 percent, medical goods and cosmetic sales by 4.9 percent and sales via mail orders and internet by 24.9 percent, while sales volume in electronic goods and furniture sales fell by 2.9 percent.
