Rise In Automotive Imports Triples The Production Increase

- Turkey's automotive imports rose at three times higher rate than the rise in production increase rate in April, according to the data released by the Automotive Manufacturers' Association (OSD) on Tuesday.

Automotive production increased by 22 percent in April to 120 thousand units, while export rate increased by 60 percent and exceeded 60 thousand units, on annual basis.

With the rise in April, the production in four-month period rose by 28 percent to 455 thousand units with and imports rose by 45 percent to 175 thousand units over the same period.

While total automotive market in Turkey rose by 68 percent to 96 thousand units in April, the market reached 280 thousand units by 56 percent increase in January-April period.

On the other hand, the total automotive exports rose onl by 2 percent to 85 thousand units in April, and in January-April period rose by 17 percent to 335 thousand units.

In April, increase in car production remained at mere 5 percent, whereas the export
increase hit 62 percent and thereby, the production rose to 67 thousand units and
exports to 51 thousand units. With this data, car import formed 85 percent of total
automotive import.

Thus, in the first 4 months’ period of the year, car production rose to 266 thousand
units with 15 percent increase; whereas car import increased to 143 thousand units
with 44 percent increase.

Total car market increased by 64 percent to 70 thousand units in April and in first four
months of the year, it became 197 thousand units with 49 percent increase.

Automotive sector’s exports in April rose by 2 percent to 85 thousand units, and car exports fell by 7 percent to 52 thousand units, in the same period.
