- A 300-meters-high ancient stone with a double headed axe symbol located in Limyra Ancient Site’s acropolis was carried by a fire extinction helicopter to the centre of the site, with support of district governorship, in southern resort province of Antalya.
In Saklısu Neighbourhood, the ancient stone has been unearthed during around the ongoing 50-year-long excavation works and has been predicted to date back to 400 B.C, and has been located in 1,5 km distance from the excavation area, before the transport.
The 600 kg artefact was first covered with foam and carried to the excavation point to protect it.
Limyra Excavation Director Professor Martin Seyer added “An important artefact was saved from further deformation. The stone with a double axe was predicted to be a symbol of Carian god Zeus Labraundos”.
