- Director-General of Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) Fuat Oktay delivered a speech addressing their efforts to protect the vast number of Syrian refugee children in Turkey within the U.N. General Assembly week, held in New York.

Having participated to the top level meeting regarding “Education in Crisis and Emergency Cases” Oktay addressed significant figures ranging from United States Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken to European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianides.

Oktay declared, Turkey has been working hard to protect a generation constituting of 700,000 children, referring to the refugee crisis.

AFAD Director General also announced around 30 percent to 35 percent of Syrian children in Turkey are at school-age and said, “Around 250,000 Syrian children has been receiving education inside and outside sheltering centers, and we have been seeking to increase this number to 400,000.”

Having referred to the aid works to Syrians in Turkey, Oktay urged that international aid was only 400 million dollars despite Turkey has allocated 7.6 billion dollars for Syrians and told, “Turkey is home to more than 2 million Syrian guests within AFAD coordination, who have been registered in biometric system.
