- Turkey's fishery production fell in the third consecutive year in 2014 to below 600 thousand tonnes, due to decreasing sea fishing products volume, according to the Fishery Products data released by Turkstat on Friday.
Fishery production decreased by 11.6 percent in 2014 with respect to the previous year and occured as 537 thousand tonnes, after falling by 5.8 percent to 608 thousand tonnes in 2013 and by 8.34 percent to 645 thousand tonnes in 2012.
The total fishery production was composed of sea fish by 43 percent, other sea products by 6.5 percent, inland water products by 6.7 percent and aquaculture products by 43.8 percent, in 2014.
Total fished products volume fell by 19.2 percent to 302 thousand tonnes in 2014, while aquaculture products volume rose by 0.7 percent to 235 thousand tonnes, over the same period. Fished marine production decreased by 21.5 percent against the previous year in 2014, while fished inland products increased by 3 percent over the same period.
Aquaculture fishery products reared in inland waters were at 46 percent of the total production, while 54 percent were reared at the seas.
Within all the production of marine products by capture, East Black Sea region was the first by the ratio of 48.6 percent. The regions West Black Sea by 22 percent, Aegean and Marmara by 12.6 percent and Mediterranean by 4.2 percent followed this region.
