Unemployment Rate Rose To 4-Year High Level In December

- Turkey's unemployment rate rose to 4-year high level at 10.9 percent in December, up from 10.0 percent in December 2013 and 10.7 percent in November 2014, according to the Labour Force Statistics data released by Turkstat on Monday.

Non-agricultural unemployment rate rose to 12.9 percent, while youth unemployment rate including 15-24 age group rose over 20 percent at 20.2 percent and unemployment rate for 15-64 age group rose to 11.2 percent, over the same period.

Number of unemployed individuals aged 15 years old and over has realized as 3.1 million individuals, where unemployment rate stood at 10.2 percent for male and at 12.6 percent for female.

Number of employed individuals aged 15 years old and over realized as 25.6 million individuals in the period of December 2014 and employment rate stood at 44.7 percent, while employment rate stood at 63.6 percent for male and 26.2 percent for female.

Agricultural employment stood as 5 million individuals and non-agricultural employment stood at 20.6 million individuals in this period.

Of those who were employed in this period; 19.5 percent was employed in agriculture, 20.5 percent was employed in industry, 7.1 percent was employed in construction and 52.8 percent was employed in services.

Labour force participation rate (LFPR) stood at 50.2 percent with 28.8 million individuals in the period of December. LFPR realized as 70.8 percent for male and 30 percent for female.

The ratio of individuals who worked without any social security related to the main job rose to 33.2 percent, while this rate stood at 81.2 percent in agriculture sector and 21.6 percent in non-agriculture sector.
