The human traffickers were making arrangements to send a group of migrants, about 50 Syrian origin, to Greek island of Lesvos, when they met a group of villagers of Bademli, on the Aegean coast of Western Turkey.

The villagers neutralised two of the human traffickers and tied them to the telegraph poles by rope and informed the gendarme. The gendarme detained the two and started a wider operation in the region and caught two accomplices of them and detained.

The gendarme stopped a minibus passing by, as the part of the operation, which was carrying plastic boats for the migrants. The gendarme found the migrants hiding around close to the shore, where they were waiting for the human traffickers with the boats.

Sharing borders with Syria and Iraq to the south and EU members Bulgaria and Greece to the northwest, Turkey has become a center for migrants looking to illegally enter the EU. In recent years, one of the most favored routes to the EU has been Turkey’s Aegean region, as well as its southern provinces that open to the Mediterranean.
